Lucky Kitchen

Speaking to Joe yesterday he mentioned my work is similar to 'Lucky Kitchen' and I should check out their website for inspiration and ideas.
I have been on their website, they are a studio who design for record labels. Like me they hand draw illustrative pattern. Some of it is quite interesting and decorative, which I think suite the type of 'calming' music being advertised. However, like me I think they also struggle with colour combinations.

The REAL Christmas colour spectrum.

I've been looking into different colour palettes I could use for the Chrismas themed wrapping paper. Wanting to stay away from the obvious (red, green, gold) I came across this fun colour spectrum made up of the 'real' colours of Christmas.
From a competition on the www.boooom website each colour chip has been sent with its own personal meaning and here are the best.

Some more wrapping paper ideas

The print pattern below reminds me of a photograph I took on holiday in Spain (above)
Perhaps I could take elements from the photograph to turn into a style of wrapping paper.

this zebra pattern is quite impressive even though it is a bit of a strain on the eyes.

Monochrome pattern

These patterns were used for branding identity and collateral design. I have included them in to my research because they are a good example of how I hope to use vector imagery and layout to create wrapping paper.
An interesting repetitive pattern made up of vectors to work on different scales.

Design for pattern

At the moment I want to practice design for pattern using vector image. So I have chosen to answer a wrapping paper design brief. With this in mind I have researched patterns produced by designers with this similar vector design practice.
The owl design above represents how, using vectors the image can be easily reproduced and modified, in this case a colour change of blue and pink.
I really like the intricate detail in the below designs as well. The design has managed to keep the hand drawn quality through out.
